The historic Ten Trinity Square building, which has been used as a filming location for James Bond movies, is currently undergoing a £120 million (€168 million) renovation. To ensure the safety of workers during the refurbishment, Ramtech Electronics’ wireless fire protection system, WES+, has been selected. WES+ is the only system on the market that is independently tested and certified to meet EN54 standards as well as the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). This played a key role in the construction company’s decision to choose WES+. Donban was also impressed with the system’s efficiency during demolition work. The wireless nature of WES+ makes it just as easy to remove units during demolition as it is to add them in new construction projects.
The challenge of ensuring the safety of Ten Trinity Square
Renovating a Grade II listed building presents multiple challenges, including the need to maintain historical integrity while integrating modern safety systems. Strict heritage conservation regulations prevent intrusive modifications, such as drilling for traditional wired alarm systems. Additionally, the constantly evolving nature of the construction project requires a flexible fire safety solution that can adapt to different phases of demolition and rebuilding without causing disruptions.
A fire in a historic building like this could cause irreversible damage and pose a threat to neighboring structures. By using a wireless fire protection system like WES+, we ensure optimal protection for workers and neighboring buildings, especially as this site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The solution
WES+ provides an ideal solution by offering a fully wireless fire protection system that does not require invasive installations. Its flexibility allows units to be easily added or removed as the project progresses, ensuring continuous and adaptive fire safety coverage. Furthermore, the system’s three-year battery life reduces maintenance efforts, making it a cost-effective and efficient choice for safeguarding historic buildings while preserving their architectural heritage.
Our Sales and Marketing Director at Ramtech Electronics, commented: “Although WES+ has been deployed in other internationally renowned projects, this is the first time, to our knowledge, that it has been used in a Grade II listed building. The contractor at Ten Trinity Square recognized the value of our technology during the demolition phase and saw clear cost savings for future projects, thanks to its reusability.”
Only about 5% of buildings in the UK hold Grade II listed status. Experts believe that WES+ offers the highest level of fire protection for these internationally significant sites, particularly given the alarming statistics of fires in historic buildings across England and Scotland, where losses or severe damage occur on a weekly basis.
The Challenge of Safety
The WES3 system’s alert capabilities had proved to be a game-changer. Unlike traditional air horns, which had often blended into the background noise of construction sites, the WES3 alerts had commanded immediate attention. The unmistakable sound, accompanied by strobe lights, had left no room for ambiguity. In the event of a medical emergency, the system’s specific medical alert button had ensured that help was dispatched promptly, preventing confusion and minimizing response times.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
The WES3 Emergency Alert System had not only met the project’s stringent safety requirements but exceeded them. Impressed by the system’s capabilities, the safety coordinators had envisioned taking it to future projects. With a legacy of professionalism and forward-thinking, the choice of Ramtech’s WES3 system had reflected the commitment to safety and innovation in the face of challenging construction environments. As the Boston Seaport Tower project reshaped the city, the WES3 system had stood as a testament to the unwavering dedication to worker and property safety in the face of challenging construction environments.
